Red Cross campaign

Journal Entry: Thu May 8, 2008, 12:00 PM
  • Mood: Cheerful
  • Listening to: KT Tunstell
  • Watching: Underworld / the news
Today most of my school took part in a demonstration for Finland's Red Cross concerning the deaths of civilians in wars. The campaign says that for every soldier that dies ten civilians die so we were supposed to lie on the ground for 10 minutes to prove our point.

I don't know how much effect this campaign will have (or will at all) but the event made the papers and the news.

Check out the article here [link] and here [link] (sorry both are in Finnish, but just incase someone here is interested)

Yeah, overcoming your fear is pretty awesome, but personally I prefer living a calm life without any risks. Adrenalin is not for me :)

that is scary! i almost drowned when i was small in a swimming pool because i jumped in the water without these things which u put around ur arms and keep u afloat. I was lucky my uncle pulled me out, but it was some hell of a luck he noticed

when i get scared i begin to get so mad at myself and wish sometimes i were still a kid and didn't understand the dangers, but then i understand that fear is necessary :)

but it's so awesome when u are able to overcome ur fear

Most of such things I experienced when I was younger. Now I totally agree with saying that children are much braver than adults. Maybe that's because adults realize what results some pieces of carelessness can cause. It happened when me and some of my relatives were near the lake. I followed my cousin's mum swimming with my eyes and tried to repeat that (I hadn't known how to swim that age). It seemed so easy. Of course, I swam like a stone. I experienced a strange feeling being deeply under water. To tell the truth, that feeling was somehow pleasurable, but even my small childish brains understood that I'm gonna die if I stay breathless for a longer time. I rised into the air and started coughing. Nobody had noticed my "swimming". Maybe I had been under water just for a few seconds but THEN, at that age, that was really scary. The end.
